Famous last words: Oh, what exquisite jewellery, wouldn't it make for a great cosplay? So, digging through my "junk drawer", I set out to create the barbed wire choker in under an hour. Flush with success I hunted for the perfect beads and bought them online, spending days counting them and making sure all the linkages were perfect.
I will not even mention the Joys of Handsewing Vinyl (my favorite rant) and will instead complain about hiding the straps that held the wings under ace bandages, since Rosiel's shirt had to be open. This greatly unbalanced the wings, and made this costume painful to wear. (I had to pad my shoulders with bubble wrap to avoid ending up with raw skin.)
All things considered, I love this costume, even if I had to hold the skirt up walking down the hall after people repeatedly stepped on it... it is also a turning point, since I am retiring it at the same time as Lexi-nee-san will retire her first Alexiel. Look for something new (and slightly more colourful) come Otakon!
As as small side note, this is the skimpiest costume I have ever worn at a con, and made Terry exclaim, upon seeing pictures of it, that he could actually see skin... something that never happens in my cosplay and will probably not happen again until my midriff-showing outfit for Otakon.
This costume was given a Hall Cosplay Award at Katsucon 2002, the one time I bothered to enter it in any contest. I had brought documentation just in case, since, for someone who had not read that particular volume of Angel Sanctuary, it could have looked like a random Goth outfit while it was all about the re-creation of insane little details.
Weirdest quote: "Look! It's X!" at seeing part of our Katsucon 2002 group (Lucifer, Rosiel, Alexiel, Mad Hatter and Raziel) walking down the hall together. I wonder who gets to be Fuuma?
