My favorite costume, as far as sheer drama is concerned, it was also the most challenging to create, and taught me the gift of patience. 208 silk petals, 300 feather, about 50 silk ivy leaves, and custom jewellery later, I was ready. It's also the first costume that I made completely on my own. Even the pants. It might not have The Hat, but it still had great entertainment potencial in the form of hancuffs. Trapping my long-suffering friends in the chains hanging from them was an endless source of amusement for me and photo ops for the yaoi fangirls.
After my wings got badly damaged at Katsucon (a mixture of wind tunnel effect and congoers not bothering to slow down before barelling through them...) I had to almost start from scratch. And made them much bigger. Which means... heavier. (and they were not light to begin with)
But luckily I found a way to distribute the weight better, while hiding the unsightly straps under my costume. After finding out how hard it was to lie down or even sit down with those wings and having to stand on 3 1/2 inch heels for two days, I think I deserved that wonderful back massage I got on Sunday. *purrrrrrr* Thanks Charli!
This costume was runner-up in the Hall Cosplay Contest at A-kon 2001. I was quite disappointed by the results as technically easier and incomplete costumes (Garnet) were better received by the judges. The fact that Angel Sanctuary was relatively unknown in the midwest might have played against me, as not only was my costume authentic in the smallest details, I know I look the part.
