Version: vol. 17 uniform
If it wasn't obvious that I loved Angel Sanctuary, this would be just another indication. I had been fawning over the manga for something a bit less common, but still challenging to my new found sewing machine. Setsuna struck me, as he has so many outfits, yet few ever attempt them. Tossing between his pvc shorts get up from volume 16, or the multi-pocket uniform in volume 17...I went with the pockets.
The biggest hurdle for this costume, was the fact I had almost no money to make it. Fortunately, I had an abundance of black lining, a pair of high quality pvc pants, and the gift of finding $2 a yard broad cloth at Walmart. There I chuck out the entire costume for just under $15. Tell me that's not amazing. All right, its not. Anyway...
The hardest part of even constructing this costume, was the attempt to have every line on the coat match those on the drawn page. Even seams that were utterly pointless, were put into the coat. Another minor set back, was the constant hand stitching with the pvc. It would not run through the machine, so every pvc strip had to be hand hemmed. I was not good at handsewing at the time of making this, or else they would have been much more clean. In the end, I had a fully lined coat, with six working pockets. The phrase, "Hey, I can carry that for you," was said numerous times at the convention.
Next were the pants, which involved chopping off the legs of the pvc pants, stitching all the detailing on them (all premade to prevent having them off in size), and then restitching the pant legs onto pre-cut grey pants (local thrift store find, matching material thankfully). I believe it took all of watching Kill Bill Vol. 1 to make the pants alone.
In the end, I had discovered how to make a functional, durable costume. This was much more fullfilling to me, than anything else.
